“I know you didn’t, but you did..” Eric heard the water running for a few seconds. He listened to her talk, paying attention to what she was saying. “If that’s what you want, sure.” Eric put his hand on the nob, waiting for some signal that she was opening it. He bit his bottom lip, avoiding saying anything else. Every thing in him told him to tell the truth, to say he wanted to stay with her for as long as possible, but he didn’t. He couldn’t. It would just mess them up even more. Eric slowly turned the nob, barely pushing it open. Waiting for her to open it completely.
She smiled a little as he said she did. But she wiped that smile off her face and just stood there before feeling somewhat composed. She opened the door to find his face right in front of hers and she just stared at it and sighed. She grabbed his face and kissed him.” I just want to ask you for one thing….and that was it…let’s not talk about anything and spend the whole night together, I don’t care what we do but I just want this and us for tonight okay?” She didn’t want to think of what tomorrow would bring, she didn’t want to think that he was just using her. She wanted to believe he loved her more than he had loved anyone because she did. She just wouldn’t admit it to anyone but him.

Eric heard the door shut and lock. He looked up from the glass in his hands, and made his way to the room again. “Audrey?” Eric walked around the small apartment before going to the bathroom. “Hey, are you okay? I..I didn’t say I didn’t like it. If that’s what you thought.” He leaned against the door, trying to listen to see if she would hear him. “Wanna open the door? It’d be nice to talk you and not the door.” Eric knocked softly on the door, waiting for her to open it.
Audrey wiped away the few stray tears as she heard his voice. She liked hearing him but at the same time wished is was just her imagination. She knew it made no sense. But yet again neither did they. She made sure her voice wasn’t going to come out shaky before answering back. “It doesn’t matter, I didn’t expect to wow you, you know…” Her voice trailed off and she splashed water on her face. She had to compose herself, she didn’t want to ruin this. Even if it was all in her mind. She leaned against the door and listened. “Can we please just stay here? And not ruin anything….just tonight?” She unlocked the door quietly but wasn’t planning on opening it until he answered.

Eric laid there, watching her cover herself with his covers. “So, do you want to eat? We never actually got to that part anyways.” Eric sat up, mimicking her. “What’s wrong?” He let his hands move up and down her back, trying to relax her. “I thought you wanted that. Sorry, I shouldn’t have let it get that far.” Eric moved away from her, giving her a little space. Eric looked around his room, trying to keep his eyes from looking at her. “I’ll be right back.” Eric got up, putting on a pair of clean boxers from his drawer and walking out of the room into the kitchen. Eric looked around the place, trying to find something to keep him busy for a few minutes before having to walk back in the room. Eric poured himself a small glass of scotch, taking a few drinks from it, trying to calm himself.
Audrey shrugged at him. She wasn’t exactly hungry, she was more sleepy than hungry. She covered her face in her hands and shook her head. “Don’t say sorry, don’t make it something we’ll regret. I love you, and I wanted this. More than anything.” She pressed against her eyes so she wouldn’t cry. She noticed him move and as soon as he left she looked up. She looked around and let a tear escape. She was a wreck and as much as she didn’t want to say anything , this would make her feel better and loved but at the same time not so good. She knew it wasn’t going to end good. After a few minutes of thinking she searched for clothes and tiptoed to the bathroom where her clothes would be a little dry now. She locked the door and after changing sat on the floor, just listening.
